The coin was minted in the Cook Islands in 2013 and only 2013 units are available worldwide.
Benedict XVI
Joseph Ratzinger was born on April 16, 1927 in Marktl am Inn, Germany. He studied at the School of Philosophy in Freising and at the University of Munich, where he obtained a doctorate in theology.
He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1951, and continued his studies at the School of Philosophy and Theology in Freising.
Due to his brilliant academic career, he was appointed as an expert at the Second Vatican Council in 1962 and remained there until 1965. In 1969 he joined the International Theological Commission, of which he was a member until 1977.
He was elected Archbishop of Munich and Freising in 1977 and was consecrated on May 28 in Munich by Josef Stange, Bishop of Würzburg. On June 27 of the same year he was appointed Cardinal by Paul VI.
In 1981 he was elected Prefect of the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, President of the Pontifical Biblical Commission and President of the International Theological Commission.
During Holy Week 2005, he was commissioned by the Holy Father to prepare the reflection for the Stations of the Cross.
He was elected Pontiff on April 19, 2005, and took the name Benedict XVI.
