The Alfonso XII  Silver "Duro" Coin
Alfonso XII of Bourbon, known as "The Peacemaker," was born in Madrid on November 28, 1857, and passed away in El Pardo on November 25, 1885. He reigned as King of Spain from 1874 until his untimely death at the age of 27, a victim of tuberculosis.

Historical Context
Alfonso XII was the son of Queen Isabella II of Spain and her husband, Francisco de Asís de Borbón. His reign marked the beginning of the Bourbon Restoration in Spain. Despite his short life, Alfonso XII sought to stabilize the nation after years of political turmoil, earning his moniker as a unifier.

He was succeeded on the throne by his posthumous son, Alfonso XIII of Spain. During Alfonso XIII’s minority, the regency was led by his mother, María Cristina of Austria, continuing the Bourbon dynasty's legacy.
